why are you attacking katie couric? all she did was ask questions and she was a completely brand-new candidate on the national scene and we didn't know anything about her. she was asking her simple questions like, what newspapers did you read? that's not katie couric's fault for being able to answer, on the know, "the washington post" or hundreds of others newspapers you can choose from. "showbiz tonight" did reach out tonight to katie couric. they said no comment about palin's claims in her book. tanika, sarah palin is obviously not going anywhere, neither is katie couric. would you not love to see a rematch between these two. wouldn't that be great? >> oh, yeah! first of all, i love oprah, you guys know, so i think this interview is going to be unbelievable and i'm sure everyone is going to watch it over and over and over. but her against katie couric is like a wwe matchup and i want to see it again. i want to see if maybe she knows how to spell her name this time, i don't know. >> oh, come on! you don't have to go th

that's some of the ways sarah palin described katie couric. she said she didn't respond well to some of the questions because she was annoyed by couric's constant presence. she described one incidence after she had just finished a campaign rally. >> my friend opens the curtain for me to get backstage and there's the perky one again with the microphone and the cameras rolling and i'm like, dang, give me just a couple of minutes to gather -- with all due respect, yeah. nicely. >> so pretty perky, too. >> well, cbs' news president says -- yeah, that's right. the president of cbs saying the quality of the interview and the questions, they speak for themselves. >> wow. palin also claims in her book that she was basically tricked into doing the interview in the first place. how so? >> well, palin says she was driven to do the interview by a campaign adviser named nicolle wallace who used to work with couric. in the book she says wallace told her, quote, katie really likes you. she admires you as a working mom. she just relates to you, end quote. she

kati, thank you for coming. i'm joined by our deputy mayor for education, as well as joe klein, our great chancellor. i am sure everyone here is making about turkey and pumpkin pie. tonight i will be watching balloons being blown up. you can watch it on television. it is an incredible experience. i can't imagine as much hot air in one place, although this is washington. it is always a pleasure to be here in the nation's capital, particularly since this is the only city his basketball team is jerry as badly as new york's. i feel right at home. i ride the subway every day. the only time anybody has ever yelled at me is one time as a listing of the big hoking garlic to me, glared at me and screamed fix the knicks. there are some things even the mayor can do. president obama took office earlier this year. we are told we should never allow a serious crisis to go a waste. the president is not only working to stabilize the financial community and financial market, the on the industry, he is focused on our long-term eco

here's what she said. >> let's talk about the interview with katie couric. >> must we? okay. >> you talked about in the book, so i assume everything in the book is fair game. you do say that it wasn't your best interview. do you think that was a defining moment for you, that interview? >> i do not. in fact, that is why segment two, three, four and maybe five were scheduled. the campaign said, right on, good, you're showing your independence. this is what america needs to see and it was a good interview. and of course i'm saying, if you thought that was a good interview, i don't know what a bad interview was because i knew it wasn't a good interview. >> the entire interview with oprah airs on monday, the day before palin's memoir "going rogue" hits stores. >>> we're still seeing a lot of rain. i'm assuming from what used to be hurricane ida. so let's talk about the weekend. meteorologist bob van dillen. >> yeah, good morning, robin. you saw the floodwaters in virginia. this is the reason why. this is all rainwater. this isn't ocean surge or anything. this is rain. langle

kati? [applause] >> thanks. you know, arne and mike have just outlined some very big and very bold, some might say earthshaking changes for education system. i doubt i need to remind most people in this room why the big changes are so important. yes over the past decade we have made some progress in this country and raising achievement of american children especially elementary grades. and yes, the children furthest behind, low-income kids, kids of color, students with disabilities, english-language of learners have made more progress than other kids substantially narrowing the gap between the kids in other young americans. and yes, despite the contention that we don't know how to improve our lowest performing schools and an awful lot of those schools actually have gotten a lot better in recent years proving beyond the shadow of doubt as arne said so clearly were kids can achieve high levels when we teach them at high levels. but the truth of the matter is we have made gains only been measured by an old yardstic
